This happens, but rarely. The most frequent scenario is for non-infantry soldiers in an MOS that is needed in an airborne unit to be PCS'd with Airborne school en route to 4-25.

When I came in all soldiers regardless of MOS had to be Airborne qualified to go to an Airborne unit. The army could not get enough support soldiers into Airborne units so they modified the requirement to only the support soldiers that are in infantry battalions have to be qualified. The support battalions in said units do not require their support personnel to be Airborne. Although, it was still pretty frowned upon while I was in the 82nd.

I did as well. There was a large group of people with me at Airborne doing the same thing.

I had finished jump school when I returned from Germany before going to Bragg. When I went to Alaska I already had my wings and I was stationed at Wainwright instead of Richardson where there was a unit that jumped.

Contact your branch manager... 4/25 is cutting 1200+ troops and reflagging as a task force... Just double check with them...

Thanks for the responses everyone. I am support (91B). Slotted reservation for Jump School in a few months en route to Ft. Richardson. I must have not been fully awake when posting this. Anything is possible in the military. Just had questions for anyone that has had this scenario.

There is a TDY en route option for airborne. I did it for Special Operations Training going to Fort bragg from Hawaii.

Call branch. Whatever is in the orders is orders. Back in 2009 I was assigned to the 173rd in conditions of me passing Airborne school. Others did the same thing.

Yes I believe there is still an Airborne unit up there.
