Is this true or is this some myth that just made its way through the ranks? Can you pick where to go if you volunteer for recruiting duty? 2020-04-09T19:34:59-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 5758762

I’ve heard through the years that you have more leeway in picking a location if you volunteer for recruiting duty, whereas being DA selected is opposite. I had been out of the service about 18 months and decided to go back in. I talked to Capt. Edward Gentry and he signed me right up. They had a opening in A&I and said I could start right away. They said I couldn't keep my rank because I had been out so long but they would send me to school and they could then change my MOS and get a promotion. Before you know it I was working on a civilian office building not far from my hometown. I had a apartment that the Army paid for and well as all new furniture, recieved travel pay monthly food allowance and recruiter pay. Changed my whole life. Yeah go to the nearest Recruiting Main Station they'll help you out. Good luck
Capt Gentry if you're out there I 'd like to touch base. No guarantees. While SC in 1st BDE, Baltimore, 80% of ARC students were headed there to fill the depleted ranks.
