Can you pull DD214's without a social? I'm looking to pull my grandfathers from WW2 and I have a fried who wants to pull his cousin's from Vietnam. We don't have socials for either.

You can contact your counties local veteran service officer or VFW post's service officer they can help. But prior to 1950 it was not a DD-214 it was a different type of document. And it can be done without SSN's. Seen it done to verify people Auxillary membership in the VFW.

MAJ (Join to see) Yes! However, as mentioned by MSG Wade Huffman you need to provide much more information. Specifically, date of birth. Telling them June 1912 is not going to help. If the individual was in for more than one tour, then the exact entry dates and discharge dates are necessary. Even then, there may be upwards of several dozen that come up with the same dates of birth. Things like where they went through MEPS, last known military unit assignment are all useful.

It was during the Vietnam war (around mid point) that they began putting the SSN on the 214. Prior to that, there was only the service number. There was a period of time during Vietnam where they were transitioning and SSN and Service Number were both used
If you are requesting copies, use the service number OR SSN whichever is applicable (can be either during the transitional period). If you have neither, they will still do their best with whatever info you give them. Dates are VERY important so try to be as accurate as possible with those.
