Can you spot a phony?

Ok which one of you let this get by? Is this your unit? Would your reserve component unit or active force be able to spot a phony from another branch? When I talk about outing posers there's always a few that don't care about the subject; why? Why is it important to you?

I would simply ask to see the potential fraud's Military ID Card. If one is in uniform, one is required to have Military ID. This will answer the question definitively.

But sneakers and jeans with any uniform top just screams POSER!

The Marine Corps dress uniform is arguably the most recognizable of all service branches. I wouldn't be able to pick out if his ribbons were out of order, but the wrong pants and tennis shoes is a dead give away. I'm not sure what's worse, the poser or what appears to be an Infantry CPT in the picture going along with it.

I have no idea in what context this picture was taken, but I would guess that it would have to have been the aftermath of some sort of skit at a dining out or something. I just can't see a poser dressed like that at an actual military event or any service member taking a photo with the guy that wasn't part of a joke. It could still be considered in poor taste, but there has to be a back story that we aren't getting in the photo.

Looks like the collar emblems are wrong, they look to be turned outboard, the belt is unsat, the trousers are wrong, the go-fasters in uniform? Plus the guy is wearing shades and earrings in uniform. You know, if you're going to try to pull off a fraud like this, at least do some research into the correct wearing of the uniform. I've always thought that guys like this that pull this kind of stuff should be forced to go through the training of the branch of which they're pretending to be part of, but the catch being that they get no credit for the training and they are barred from wearing even an emblem of the Armed Forces of the United State ever again.

We had two guys who were asking for money to be dropped into an ammo box outside a Market Basket in Mountain View CA One wore an Airborne Cap and the other had a Marine Cap. They had a sign that asked to help Vietnam Vets. I asked if they were in Vietnam and they said yes and one said he was Airborne All The Way in Nam and the Marine said he had been in Vietnam.. This was about ten years ago and 30 years after the end of the war in Vietnam and they both looked like they were in their mid 30's So I said you guys know that Vietnam ended in 1975 so you both must have been very young when you were there like about five or six?? They then just ignored me. So I told the Store Manager at Market Basket to call the police because two phonies were taking money for Vietnam Viets and it was a scam.. So I went back to the two phonies and said "you guys make me want to puke" and they just ignored me..
