Not so much from Vietnam.

In one chapter of my memoir I wrote about the slang we used in Vietnam and then dropped when we returned home. In my opinion, many dropped the language for the same reason they ditched their uniforms at airport bathrooms, so that they wouldn't be readily identified as soldiers in a time when being a soldier invited abuse.

For example, one of the phrases I heard there and never heard again since was "Getting your car washed" used as a euphemism for having sex. GIs would park military vehicles in the middle of a stream and, while children scrambled over it washing the grime away, a girl would be sitting in the driver's lap.Response by CPT Jack Durish made Feb 8 at 2015 6:37 PM2015-02-08T18:37:24-05:002015-02-08T18:37:24-05:00SP5 Michael Rathbun464005

Some ones that mean something different:

hooch
file
typeResponse by SP5 Michael Rathbun made Feb 8 at 2015 7:59 PM2015-02-08T19:59:42-05:002015-02-08T19:59:42-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member464019

TRADOC: see: field language use.
