Chances at Selection? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/chances-at-selection

Lengthy story, so I'll get to it (short version). I spent the last 10 years as a SFC (DOR 1 July 2009). This year, during the delay to the MSG promotion board, I discovered I would not be eligible for consideration this year. After doing some digging and review, I submitted documentation for a STAB of the 2017 board. After adjourning, the board approved my promotion, effective 1 August 2017. This gives me, ALREADY, two years time in grade, and makes me eligible for the upcoming SGM board (secondary zone). My question, has anyone ever known of a person being selected for SGM without any 1SG time? Even in seeking 15Z slots as a SFC (unsuccessfully) I have held some 50 level slots, including during deployment (as a SGT and SSG). I, personally, have always been "taught" YOU WILL NEVER BE A SGM WITHOUT BEING A 1SG, first. I was raised "old school" (1992), and following a break in service, I returned and realized the Army had changed. Knowing that, what are the chances of miraculously being selected?

Does anyone have any Advice? Back pay coming? I've never even heard of that. Congrats to you. Hope you can get the CSM. SFC Michael D. All of your NCOERs will say E7 in E7 duty position.
With no NCOER showing a year of performance and potential as an E8 in an E8 duty position, or even with a senior rater option or complete the record just showing a few months in an E8 job, your chances of selection in the secondary zone are pretty much zero.
Successful 1SG time increases your chances of picking up E9, though not required.
