What words do you feel have changed their meaning in the military?

I will start with two:

1. standards - it is now something that everyone wants to obtain but not enforce

2. accountability - catch phrase to use in false promises but never to be actually done

Discipline!

The meaning really hasn't changed, just the ammount of it in most has changed, for the worse in my opinion.

Competency-where else can someone be considered trained to perform certain duties after a very short training period which was constantly interrupted by other things. I know that job training really starts at the unit, but that means that unit has to have the time and ability to train these Soldiers without having to spend most of the day in mandatory classes.

1. Brief- when updating a commander in a brief, it is meant to talk and argue as much as possible about non-issues. i.e. Colors on a slide.
