I got two:

-John Wayne.....let's face it: he was the first badass that really pushed action.

-Tuff Hedeman.....who else do you know that would willingly make a career riding almost two-thousand pounds of pissed-off steak! At least the others had stunt men and pedicures awaiting them.

However, of the above.....Bond, James Bond.....he can kill the villan (and the entire organization), get the girl, drink the finest, and look suave the whole time.

Let's see Jack Bauer is my choice for comedy since Keifer Sutherland is a drunk and the character just doesn't work for me the way he plays it.

Rambo well Stallone dodged the Vietnam War in Switzerland.

Sean Connery was medically discharged from the Royal Navy, George Lazenby was a mechanic in the Australian military, Roger Moore was in the Royal Army Services Corps, and served as a Captain in West Germany, closest Timothy Dalton came was to the UK version of the Civil Air Patrol, Pierce Brosnan never served in any military organization, Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond since Connery, he didn't serve either.

So I'd have to go with Chuck Norris since he served in the Air Force, and was made an Honorary US Marine, plus he also trained Steve McQueen, Chad McQueen (Steve's son), Bob Barker, Priscilla Presley, Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond.

I also value the person playing the character to see just how believable the person is playing a hero.

Since you are focusing on actors, I would have considered many who fought in WWII and acted in the 1960s to be legitimate bad in a good sense including:
1. Lee Marvin - US Marines, wounded in the battle of Saipan
2. Charles Bronson "According to the 39th Bombardment Group's history (39th BG was a B-29 stationed on Guam in 1945 (the Pacific Theater) Charles Buchinski (real name of Charles Bronson), served as a nose gunner. There is also 61st Sqd Roster dated Sept 1945 which lists Cpl Charles Buchinski as a member of the unit."
3. Charles Durning - US Army. Durning landed at Omaha Beach in the D-Day invasion. He survived the landing, but was wounded in an ambush during the Battle of the Bulge. He was captured, escaped, and narrowly missed assassination at the Malmedy Massacre. He won three Purple Hearts and the Silver Star.
4. Jack Palance US Army Air Corps. 455th bomb group. Required facial reconstruction from terrible injuries received in 1943 when his B17 crash landed in Britain.
5. Julia Child served with the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) in Ceylon and China during WWII.
6. Jackie Coogan [Uncle Fester] Following the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, Coogan requested a transfer to the Army Air Force as he was an experienced civilian pilot. Upon graduation from glider school, he was made a flight officer and soon participated in a very dangerous mission.
In March 1944, Coogan was among the glider pilots who took part in a mission in Burma known as Operation Broadway. On March 5, 1944, he flew some of Orde Wingate’s Chindits into Burma and helped the Allies establish a foothold behind Japanese lines in the country.
