Civilians and Green suiters

1-There is a ongoing battle between civilians vs Green suiters. Where is the line between who is in charge of who at a company level. Is there a regulation that dictates the civilian authority levels within a chain of command.  2- Convience, 'WHO YOU KNOW", are terms that the army is allowing to plauge its ranks. its not about standards any more. Why are we deviating from holding units/soldier to the fire. Both civilian and military.

Take a look at the equivalency section, and the documents it refers to. This is a general guide more than anything, when it comes to who is in charge and chain of command, the best bet is to ask the leader of your company to put out a policy letter with official notice of civilian "rank" as far as operations go.

SSG, I don't know of a regulation that covers this topic. I do agree that there is tension between civilians and green suiters. The tension comes from the fact that most of the civilians are retired or prior military. The GS-9 that you are talking to may be a retired CSM. What the civilian personnel need to realize is that their GS position grants them no authority over military personnel. We have GS-14 personnel who are directors of training departments, but they have no military authority. Military personnel can be rated by a senior GS employee, but not be punished by one. The GS level is a pay scale. The lowest ranking 2LT will take charge of an organization prior to a GS employee.Both sides need to revert back to the golden rule. Treat others like you want to be treated.I've told a couple of civilians in my office that they needed to remember that they aren't in service anymore and they are nowhere in my rating chain. We have to keep a peaceful workplace and get along for the overall good of the mission.

It depends on where you are. Over here at CASCOM, the command has always been a mix of about 50/50 civilians and military. There is a great relationship here due to long standing procedural guidance and clear delineation of responsibility.

I currently work in an enviroment where I am at the bottom of the barrel in a system with more civillians than green suiters. It's extremely difficult and at the end of the day it always seems like the civilians have the last say. Some days it's hard others it works in our benefit but what it all comes down to is having a mutual respect for eveyone regardless of what they come to work in. While it's a lot harder than having an actual rank structure it still works.
