In an earlier thread posted by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member the topic of command reliefs was mentioned. I thought this was apt, so provided for your consideration.

Maj. Gen. Michael Keltz, commander of the 19th Air Force, has resigned his position effective Thursday over an "inappropriate comment" in a public forum, the Air Force said Wednesday.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS, another in a long line of general officers from the various services to bite the dust. Makes one wonder, but it seems like the demon rum was involved!

How can 34 years of service be undone by 1 comment?? This zero tolerance for mistakes from leadership is BS - especially because it doesn't seem to apply to elected officials. Hmm, wonder why that is?

I get the sense the comment was made in his role as a convening authority for UCMJ actions, presumably about the subject of a UCMJ action - though the article is admittedly vague. In that case though, it makes sense to me his every comment / remark was under scrutiny...and that the comment somehow compromised the military justice system. May be reading in to it, but in those circumstances, can understand that the only option was to remove him...and that effectively ends his career.

This doesn't make sense to me. I can't think of any comment somebody could make that by itself would undo an exceptional 34 year career... unless that comment would also lead to legal prosecution (treason, etc.). I don't understand what somebody could possibly say to end a long career, yet still be praised by a 4 star General as part of your retirement. How can you have it both ways? Something just seems really odd about this.
