Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS . Thanks for posting this. The Marine Corps actually does the work. conducts in depth analysis and reaches conclusions based upon data and what most people already knew through experience in the real world. The response from some will be like one CPT Servicemember (who hides his real name). They will post unrelated pictures and comments not germane to the discussion.

No one is saying women have not/do not serve honorably it is about leading combat arms MOS's against the enemy. The mission of the Marine Corps rifle is "The mission of the Marine Corps rifle squad is to locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver and to repel enemy's assault by fire and close combat." It is pretty simple. What gives us the best chance for success against the enemy.

This topic is ridiculous, not because women can’t serve in combat (they do already), it’s because the numbers expected in combination with actual ability is beyond unrealistic. Ash Carter is out of touch with reality for so many reasons. He seems to expect that once the "barriers" are removed, women will be flocking to join combat arms and special operations units. Maybe he should go spend a couple months with any of these elements. Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., who served as a Marine infantry officer in Iraq is also delusional. Rep. Moulton is the real deal but I think playing the politics game of his party either has warped his senses or he’s simply posturing to look good, knowing full well this isn’t going to happen. Maybe the same goes for Ash Carter.

If you can find women who WANT to live this life and who can also do it WITHOUT lowering standards – let them.

The problem with this study is that it does not address the real claims of those who advocate opening all military jobs to women. It is completely unsurprising that most females are much less suited to combat arms jobs than most males. However, there are outliers-females who possess outstanding athletic ability and the mental and psychological qualities necessary to thrive in combat arms jobs. Regardless of their rarity, there is no truly principled reason (consonant with American ideals) that would preclude fully-qualified females from pursuing combat arms jobs. The military spends money on the most fatuous things, and yet it is ostensibly too much trouble to allow fully-qualified, hard-charging females to be fully integrated into combat arms jobs. Regardless of what hysterical males claim, integrating truly elite females into combat arms jobs will not in any way diminish national security.

not real convinced with this study. Women have been in combat all over the world throughout history, this one study doesn't suddenly undo that. There are countries around the world today that have women in combat positions. If a woman meets the standards, then they are obviously met regardless.

Much of this is people resistant to change, which in itself is a sad thing because without change we stay static and eventually we lose.

As I posted in my previous comments; this study just showed what I have been saying all along, there are certain jobs in the marine corps that should be held by male marines and ground combat arms is one of them. I have been there and know what the job is. we have to consider all the logistical things that go into adding women to the mix. just ask a support officer of any BN or Co. it can be very costly. men do not require much in the field. we can't just look at the outside of the situation; you have to consider the details. it is not a place for women. I don't think the American people are ready for body bags full of women because they think this jobs should be equal. just wait for the next war when we go back to Iraq. yes; we are going back.
