SGT Ronnie Warford 665658

Okay so my Platoon Sergeant approached me today and told me that he thought I was a very good soldier and wanted me to work in the orderly room. My section sergeant isn't happy but is willing to do it since 1st Sergeant wants me in there too. Is the defac going to allow this or am I going to be trapped until I change my mos? Towards the end of my eight years they discovered I was good at chaptering soldiers out and paperwork. Guess where I ended up... S1 NCOIC until I got out. If it is the company mess, then no problem, CO can put you where he wants you. His reach is all the way from the orderly room to the mess hall at the other end of company street. It might be a test for consideration for NCO school. Or it may also be meeting a unit’s need efficiently on short notice (someone had orders cancelled, special projects, need a trusted person in a key role) .
I got farmed out to supply dept twice. I volunteered. Normally a PO doesn’t crank on a surface ship. So I did that. I brought out the pre Navy food service skills. Got selected to move from enlisted mess deck, took the mid rats shift (least popular); got moved up to the ward room, got selected to attend to the XO/CO on weekends. They called, I went.
Second tour…went to parts ordering. Worked on DRMO/excess inventory. Identified improper electronics disposal/demilitarization procedures. Found a forgotten sonar dome in our pier warehouse cleanup that was ultra top secret…and prevented it from going to DRMO.
I received commendation for my efforts and our ship got her Battle E Award. I took a drudge data entry situation, learned about the codes and forms, figured out we might be making mistakes, and brought it up the chain. It’s a team opportunity and if nothing else, you go where you are asked willingly and do whatever. Loyalty and hard work usually has a reward in the military.
