Would you add cryptocurrencies to your portfolio?

I think that blockchain technology is important, and there are some interesting chip-makers like NVIDIA who are doing very well in that market. I own some NVIDIA. I don't plan to invest in Cryptocurrency in my portfolio. The main interest in cryptocurrency seems to be driven by speculation, there doesn't seem to be any intrinsic store of value behind any of them. The U.S. dollar is backed by the U.S. government - but who stands behind Bitcoin or Ethereum?

The U.S. dollar’s value doesn’t come from the government’s backing. It comes from the faith of the people in that government.

The same is true with blockchain technology. It just cuts out the middleman.

We will have to disagree in some measure. The people in Turkey believe in the Turkish Lira, but the rest of the world doesn't. That's one reason it lost 25% of its value last week. The key phrase as I see it is that U.S. dollars are backed by the "full faith and credit of the United States". That's why we're still the world's reserve currency in spite of all the shenanigans in Washington DC.

I am still unsure as many financial advisers seem to be.
