So here you are trying to earn the respect of all your fellow soldiers, and a butter bar Lt. walks in and gives you an order.....because he can.....what was said to you? What was your reaction? I had a scenario when I was stationed in England that was just like this, and this USAF Lt. (maybe the other branches give the officers some field experience) this guy was way too book smart about the military.....to actually lead anybody anywhere....ha ha ha ha Anyway, I am curious about your situations!

Gen Westmoreland ordered Army Nurse Corps personnel to wear spotless starched white uniform dresses stockings high heels makeup lipstick and perfume while on duty in the rather hot humid red dust and red mud ridden environment of South Vietnam.

We very politely tacitly and demurely ignored his orders.

SPC Randy Torgerson. This is why we wear greens in the field . . . they don't show the flying mud, dust, blood, bone, vomit, and/or tissue as much . . . are much more comfortable and efficient for work . . . and freaks out patients less. When you are in a proper clean hospital environment working at lower pace on troops who are already well past immediate danger . . . then starched whites, makeup, perfume, etc really really help raise our soldiers spirits . . . but nothing looks so god awful as a filthy white uniform in field aid station and/or evac hospital . . . Warmest Regards, Sandy

1LT Sandy Annala, Only military medical personnel would think the reason for wearing camouflage clothes was to make us look not so bad when wounded. Haha, I say that with a warm comical heart... But I think the reason we wear camouflage clothes is so the enemy doesn't see us in the first place. That was really cute how you said that though... (:

SPC Randy Torgerson. When I said we . . . I meant nurses. Of course your guys in the bush have more in mind blending into their background. Also, when nurses were outnumbered by men 1,000 : 1 it helped us to blend in a crowd by dressing like you guys. Warmest Regards, Sandy

Being assigned as the investigating officer for an Article 15 investigation to prove that a soldier who was witnessed drowning was actually dead because the body wasn't recovered. True story.

The body floated to the surface 5 months later PO1 (Join to see) , MSG Wade Huffman after the spring thaw. No not assume, but prove the soldier had no intention of going AWOL and deserting. Basically had to interview friends and family in the area to make sure he had no problems, ill feelings for the military, etc., despite 3 sworn eyewitness statements that saw him go under after falling off a boat and never coming up again.

there will be no liberty (shore leave) unless moral improves in this division, and yes this was truly said to me by an O3 onboard the USS Shreveport LPD-12

OK.. here goes, No @h!t, there I was, TDY as part of a 2 man mobile training team in Tong Du Chon Korea, staying at the 'lovely and luxurious' Tong Du Chon Tourist Hotel downtown. The date: 9/11/2001 (actually arrived the evening of 9/10/2001).
Long story short, as a result of all the chaos, I couldn't get a call through back to home station (Ft. Jackson, SC) until 9/13 at which time I received the 'order' to "Return to Home Station, IMMEDIATELY!"
Not exactly sure how they expected us to get back to Ft. Jackson with all aircraft grounded.
I did do the stupid thing and ask "How?, Swim?"... the response "I don't care HOW you do it, just get back here".
We did get back, 2 weeks later.
