Trying to gauge how long it will take before my promotion order is cut? Also, will the order be backdated to the date of my DA selection or to the date I was placed in the O6 command position? DA Select, unit vacancy - how long does the promotion order take? 2022-10-17T12:17:14-04:00 LTC Private RallyPoint Member 7935709

I was DA select for O6 Aug 2021. DA Select is much faster than UVP. In your case this means the date you were slotted into the position and when you were selected for promotion (whichever is later)*. This will be the date that is processed on the paperwork moving you to the position, not the date you were told you would be going or such.

I have seen cases where a unit has played with the paperwork and backdated the date, but that's a no-no and will get people into trouble.

Second question - How long?: 'that depends' because you're moving at the speed of bureaucracy. I am going on the assumption that you've already met with your S1/G1 folks and submitted your "acceptance of promotion" paperwork.

I've seen it go as fast as a few weeks and I've seen it take a few months. Depends on how much other paperwork is on the desk of the people processing it. The "few weeks" was done by an M-Day Soldier that was already slotted into an appropriate position, had the paperwork completely (less the promotion list) and the day the list came out the packet was submitted, so this is more an anomaly than a rule.
----------------------------
Promotion date: AR 135-155, para 4-21b(2) Response by COL Randall C. made Oct 17 at 2022 1:35 PM 2022-10-17T13:35:55-04:00 2022-10-17T13:35:55-04:00 SGM Private RallyPoint Member 7936360

In the Guard, DA Select and UVP take the same amount of time. UVP just means the Guard is doing the paperwork to promote someone prior to DA Select.
The promotion still depends on the vacancy for the grade, and either way, the order can only be backdated to the day you occupied the position of that grade .
The time it takes is how long your state's OPM takes to forward up the paperwork, and how long it takes to scroll. Your actual promotion date will be the select date based on sequencing not Command position. You will be paid from the date you were sequenced for promotion.

Something may have changed, not likely. Congrats Sir. Once my DA packet was submitted, it was roughly 5 weeks for the FEDREC action to return. Then another 2-3 days for my G1 to publish the state order. The ARNG G-1 portal didn't update at all during this time, it just said something along the lines of 'waiting for review'. I was originally told 2-4 weeks by some and then also told 4-12 weeks, so 5 wasn't too bad. Hope this helps anyone that might be in the same boat.
