"The Press" as a concept is very fluid, especially in the Information age. We can definitely see aspects of it being politicized, monetized, etc.

Since now every citizen with a cell-phone is essentially a "on the scene" reporter, how has the Press Secretaries duties evolved over the last decade? I imagine the concept of "breaking news" or "being blindsided" is just amazingly more prevalent now than it was 10-15 years ago.

Do you know if he would be willing to accept stepping back into the public arena to help Veterans by taking over the Veterans Administration with a goal of helping to reform it, if the position were offered to him?

There were many challenges America faced post 9/11 especially the economic concerns during the time frame when you were the press secretary. As it seems that Presidents are always under attack or at least criticized in their approach in how they go about executing their policies, how much liberty did you have in articulating President Bush's policies? Can you do more to bring media and public light to our extremely corrupt and broken justice system that needlessly incarcerates tens of thousands of U.S. Citizens for non-violent felonies, destroying their lives and costing the tax-payers billions. People have no idea how broken the system is, or that it is an issue that afflicts everyone, because all they get from the news is assigned blame and racism. The media has arguably done very little actual good collectively in the last decade. If there were one thing media could actually do to help us be better as a people, I think this would be it.

I would like to know why no one is looking at the employment disparity of Veterans and company's who say they are Veteran friendly, or how Veterans can't get employment because employers feel the Veteran does not have the skills for a Job said Veteran did in the military from 4 to 30 years.

Employers used to seek out the skills, work ethic, and professionalism Veterans brought to the table. Now the label of Veteran closes doors.

And I do not mean entry level Job's or low skilled employment.

I would just like to see the media look into it, maybe help to bring the issue to light.

I am a huge fan of Bush 41 & 43. I love your show 'The Five' and hope to see more brilliant commentary from Republican women based on character and principle. I believe the only way America is successful is regaining the limits on Federal powers and working to support State and individuals goals.

Why do Democrats/liberals/progressives not see their policies, with no element of individual responsibility have led to: the largest Federal Debt and yearly deficits, Blue states with underfunded pensions and the complete destruction of urban inter-city communities?

We all need to work together to help solve the problem, this means engagement and discussion. It also means that Democrats have to be willing to try something different than their plan of throwing money at the Unions and Government bureaucracy. Democrats seem unwilling to engage in the discussion or dismiss the root cause as this threatens the source of their political power. As an American, I want real solutions that are sustainable so our children have a better life.

How do we as Americans, who happen to be Republicans, start the discussion toward being a partner in the solution? What policies can we advocate that have shown results?

As we push towards another presidential election and the forum for this discussion is military service why do you believe veterans are not joining the highest political offices?I fear for a country that doesn't understand the sacrifice of our veterans and what there volunteer oath means. The willingness to sacrifice one's self for another citizen even one that burns or tramples on our US flag is what I want to see in our future political leaders. Good day!
I don't understand why when we are given a fiscal year allotment, that we are forced to spend every penny of it to get the same budget the following year. Wouldn't it be much more frugal to simply roll the command's money over to the next year and reward them with the same budget? Instead, at the end of the year we waste thousands on things we don't actually need just so our budget won't be cut for the next. Are there any plans on improving this system?

Hello, thank you for being here. I respect the work you did as WH PS, some ground breaking milestones for women everywhere. Inspiring. My question is this: In "And the Good News..." you relate a lot of personal stories and as an admirer, I feel this book lets those of us watching from afar, get to know you better. We have a glimpse into the Bush WH. Thank you for that. However some of the critics expected a journalistic vantage point to come through, which would be useful to debunk some of the negative myths surrounding "W". When the public sees a politician in front of the media, they are often very aggressive to down right mean when concerning the views or actions of the opposing party. Is this how politicians normally conduct themselves or is this more of a "show" for their voting base? Are interactions this brutal between opposing party members behind closed doors or is it more civil?

Dana Perino First and foremost, I would be remiss if I did not say that I have enjoyed listening and watching you on TV. Not only did (and does) it seem like you care about what is and was going on, you convey it to the regular Joe like me (pun intended). And, because a little irreverence runs in my career field, I would also be remiss if I did not say that you are beautiful (respectfully meant of course).

On to my question:

Other than what you have already said on this thread, what was the most rewarding part of your position with the President? Also, where did you feel that you had the most influence while you were there?

As an aside, what advice would you give veterans that have legitimate cause for claims with the VA, but no medical records (lost records) to back those claims?

Lastly, thank you for your support of the Veteran community. I know I appreciate it, so I am sure a couple of others do too ;-)

Dana Perino, You gave credit to Sen Mitch McConnell for starting to move legislation. Harry Reid sat on a lot of legislation, so this is a welcome and needed start.

My concern is that we have a fracture in the GOP between true Conservatives (such as Ted Cruz, Trey Gowdy, Louie Gohmert, etc.) and Establishment Conservatives (such as John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, etc.) whose voting records are indistinguishable from the Democrats they say they oppose.

What voters are increasingly getting frustrated with is the notion that no matter who you vote for, they all work for the same special interests and it really doesn't matter who's in office. I don't agree with that -- but it certainly does appear that way!

Do you see the future of the GOP as becoming more centrist and accepting of Democratic initiatives such as Obamacare, Amnesty for Illegals, Gun Control, etc. OR do you think the GOP would be better off staying true to its Conservative roots and focus on enforcing Federal Immigration Law, shrinking the Federal gov't, and reducing the burdens being placed on taxpayers to include repeal of Obamacare?

Why is it after 9-11 the U.S. fault so hard to NOT allow "Muslim" Extremist, to hide themselves anywhere in the world. Yet this administration floods our Nation with "potential" extremists; and totally disregards the threat of a nuclear Iran, and seemingly works against our allies?

I have always enjoyed your comentary and am a big fan what are your thoughts on the VA corruption and and how we can fix it there still seems to be problems but if you send in an inspector and tell them the inspector is coming that just doesn't make since to me seems should be more accountability buy outside organization that can hold the va's feet to the fire

Thanks for your service and even more for your integrity. I can't imagine being Press Secretary for a President. I am too passionate about things Constitutional. I think the Peter Principle would kick in before I got to that level.

Dana,

I appreciate your exemplary leadership skills on The Five. Most importantly, I love President George Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. In time, history will right this president. We must be patient. His greatest assets are his belief in God, wife, family, and commitment to our veterans. My question is, how can we as veterans improve the healthcare that we receive in the VA hospitals and clinics? As a nurse educator leader, I have done my best to listen to my fellow veterans. Their stories will be published anonymously. Why won't anyone listen to those of who have served in the US Army Nurse Corps? I learned most from my patients who are Rangers. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger. Godspeed to all of the veterans who I have cared for in military hospitals, veteran hospitals, and my veteran family.
