You have to have a flawless record during that time as well, and I mean no tickets or accidents...6 years is a long time to wait. I've read on several Vet Forums that their OTH never effected them, has it effected you? Are you willing to share why you didn't get an Honorable D/C? I'm curious. You're likely to get your request, sounds like you met the 'time' criteria. There is no automatic upgrade. And the burden of proof is on you. It completely depends on WHY you received the characterization you did, and whether everything was documented correctly.

http://www.monterey.army.mil/legal/trial_defense/how_to_upgrade_your_discharge.pdf Response by Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS made Mar 29 at 2015 1:41 PM 2015-03-29T13:41:26-04:00 2015-03-29T13:41:26-04:00 A1C Michael Reedy 559954

I have nothing to hide, I'm open as to why I was discharged, I know my faults. I was young and stupid much like all new recruits. I have learned from those mistakes and am better because of them. I think I was just caught in a bad time in the air force and they were looking for reasons to get rid of some people......albeit they chose poorly but that's my opinion only haha.
