The memorial to her crew was built over the sunken ship in 1962 and I&#39;ve visited it twice. It&#39;s a haunting reminder of the past and should prompt us now and always to be ever more vigilant, prepared and strong. We missed the last tour to go to the memorial itself. We drove over to Ford Island and parked and was amazed how close we could get to it. The senior officer housing backs right up to the water. It was a harrowing experience. I couldn't help but to think what it must have like. Having been in battle and think what they must have experience. If you remember, they show a short movie prior to boating you out to the memorial. Each time, my Son would cry. It is a very humbling experience that everyone should see at some point in their life.<br /><br />I couldn't imagine chillin' out and looking up and seeing hundreds of Japanese planes filling the sky and causing massive amounts of damage. Luckily, it would almost be impossible to get to Oahu undetected these days.
