I would like to take the time to remind everyone that today is the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Please take a moment of peace for the soldiers we lost , their family's , the ones who died in battle , & pray for the ones that are deployed now or will be deployed. Rest in peace. Decemeber 7, 1941 will never be forgotten.

PFC Private RallyPoint Member, this is my photo of the memorial of the USS Arizona (BB-39), which was sunk by Japanese aircraft during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawai'i on 7DEC41 and still rests in the berth where she sank. 1,177 officers and men were lost with the ship and “remain on duty” inside her rusting hulk. The memorial to her crew was built over the sunken ship in 1962 and I've visited it twice. It's a haunting reminder of the past and should prompt us now and always to be ever more vigilant, prepared and strong.

I took the kids on their first AMC flight to Hawaii and we rented a car and went out to the memorial in 2010. We missed the last tour to go to the memorial itself. We drove over to Ford Island and parked and was amazed how close we could get to it. The senior officer housing backs right up to the water.

I have been fortunate enough to visit such a place. It was a harrowing experience. I couldn't help but to think what it must have like. Having been in battle and think what they must have experience. How would you react after seeing a fleet of air craft in the sky and then see some of the best ships in the world destroyed. I do know that they paid the price for the war they started.

There is a great movie that shows post-war Japan that also does a decent representational analysis of the factors that drove Japan into war. It is a must see in my opinion. It is available for free on Netflix (and probably online elsewhere).

It's also a bad day to get married. My grandmother said the reason my parents' marriage ended was because they married on the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. Even so, the Pearl Harbor attack should be remembered for the lives lost and the war entered as a result.

I took my family there every year while I was stationed there. If you remember, they show a short movie prior to boating you out to the memorial. Each time, my Son would cry. It is a very humbling experience that everyone should see at some point in their life.

I couldn't imagine chillin' out and looking up and seeing hundreds of Japanese planes filling the sky and causing massive amounts of damage. Luckily, it would almost be impossible to get to Oahu undetected these days.

What a somber memorial. I imagine only Arlington as more daunting....but I swear there is still a strong presence on top of the sunken memorial....its eery, and everyone was so quiet when we toured, maybe out of respect, or maybe they felt the same thing I did.
