Did Any Officers And/Or Staff NCOs Carry A Swagger Stick???

Swagger Sticks were very popular when I served but today's Marines probably never heard of them.

I was given this Old Swagger Stick at my "Going Away" party & bet most here have never seen one before.. Mine is not the same as officers swagger sticks which were much more expensive

Heard of and seen them in movies, never in real life. Don't seem to have a practical purpose anymore.

That is like what the British Military do. Their CSM, or for them WO carry something like that.

Closest thing I ever saw to a swagger stick was the brass rod the DIs and range officers carried at the rifle range at PI. Boy howdy couldn't they ring a steel pot to get your attention when you screwed up!

Other than being a rod of discipline for motivating stupid/lazy troops (which doesn't fly in these modern times), I see no purpose for carrying one except to try and look cool.

There is no purpose for people wearing capes anymore, except to observe tradition. Capes are merely reminiscent of an article of clothing that once had real function and served a useful purpose... but some folks think they make you look cool, like Batman, while saving the world from the bad guys. More power to them; I'd rather keep the money. ; )

Personally, I'd rather more NCO's purchased and actually practiced the manual of arms for their NCO sword. Most aren't even aware of it's existence much less proficient with it...

I served from 1990 to 1998 and never saw a swagger stick.
