Did anybody ever meet and serve with a WW2 Veterans ? And see their Combat Patches?

Yes, one as a 2nd LT had jumped with the 101st on D Day. Rod Davis would not discuss anything except to say he had been debriefed and that was it! Dan Soria had been captured on D Day, but I do not recall what unit he was with.

There were a lot of WWII and Korean War vets when I was in the Army between 1967 and 1969, so seeing their combat patches was an everyday thing for me. But only my upper echelon commanders were WWII vets when I was in Viet Nam. I only went on one combat operation with an actual WWII vet, my B Detachment Commander, but one of my teammates on Detachment A-344 was a Korean War vet. I just don't remember either of them sporting combat patches. they probably did -- I just can't recall after all these years.

My first assignment as a Second Lieutenant, the first sergeant wore an 82nd combat patch. Had a Battalion commander who wore a glider badge. He congratulated me on going to flight school and said that he wished that he was going.

Did a volunteer job rehabbing a Liberty ship. Some WWII vets that served on them, would sit and tell us about what it was like. They were some real amazing people to listen to...

My father served but was out after WWII. I did the medals he kept once after basic and got some of them after he passed
