A good friend of mine had enlisted into Active Army as infantry. He told me he’s going to Fort Jackson, SC for basic training, then TX for AIT. I’m assuming he’s referring to either Fort Hood or Fort Bliss since Fort Sam Houston is for medical personnel. I informed he that she should be going to Fort Benning, GA for OSUT. He insists his paperwork reads the latter. Did some things change over the years? I just want to give him accurate information.

To the best of my knowledge OSUT will always be at the Home of the Infantry! Good ole Ft. Benning, GA. Sand Hill, love the place.

I agree! Unless it’s one of those “tough guy” acts? While stationed at hood, I never encountered any AIT students. Being a good NCO that I know you are, check on his paperwork? SSG (Join to see)

My thoughts exactly. I actually asked him to show me his paperwork when he got the chance. Thanks for that SSG. I want to be sure that he’s not getting screwed. I know how MEPS likes to scramble things up. SSG (Join to see)

I believe your friend is a bit confused. Perhaps he might want to check his contract before he ships out and make sure he’s getting what he really intended singing for from the get-go!

Absolutely sir. I spoke with him again and he spiel with his recruiter and confirmed that there was definitely a mistake with his paper work and got some new ones drafted.

Your friend may be confusing his Basic Combat Training unit to mean his MOS is Infantry. BCT units are Infantry Regiments, so maybe a civilian could confuse the concepts. For instance, my BCT unit was E Company, 1st Battalion-48th Infantry Regiment, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

He's probably also confusing the the idea that while BCT is basic infantry training, it does not equate to Infantry occupation training.

I’m not sure. I’ll take a look at his paperwork for him.

Stilp trying SFC. He hasn’t shown me his paperwork yet. I’ll get with him today. Hopefully I can figure out what the mix up was. SFC (Join to see)
