Did the POTUS just suggest that it would be okay for our troops to fire weapons at immigrants (including women & children) who throw rocks ?

President Trump said Thursday that he hopes the military troops being deployed to the United States’ southwestern border will not have to fire upon any migrants attempting to enter the country through Mexico, but warned that if any rocks are thrown from across the border “we will consider that a firearm.”
“They want to throw rocks at our military, our military fights back,” Trump said. “I say, consider it a rifle.”

The military won’t be directly on the border and it was stated that only those service members that have side arms in their duty assignments, will carry. And will only use them in self defense. MCPO Roger Collins - I know what a trebuchet is. While first appearing as a siege weapon in ancient China, they are commonly seen today in the American South and Midwest during the fall season, particularly utilized in ‘punkin chunkin’ competitions.
Assuming this current caravan hasn’t amassed an arsenal of currently unseen trebuchets, it’s more likely that any rocks thrown will be thrown by hand.
In war, I’m all about swift, violent, overwhelming, disproportionate action. But this isn’t war. This isn’t the mob. Also, as you’re apparently not a fan of the previous administration, why would you invoke anything he said as justification for action now?
More likely, the statements from the current administration are mostly fear mongering nonsense, strategically made right before the elections, designed to rally the political base of the administration.
And yeah, they can duck. And like the report stated, they can back up or move out of the way. Just as they’re not going to encounter a bunch of trebuchets, they’re not going to encounter a bunch of MLB pitchers throwing in fastballs with rocks. If the Border Patrol or Military or any large armed force can’t figure out how to subdue someone throwing a rock, they need to re-evaluate their chosen profession.
I have a hunch that after the election, that everyone will getting spun up about ‘the caravan’ will have something else to get angry about presented to them.
And note, you have neglected to answer the questions I posed in my original response. “Now, imagine this ‘precedent’ carrying over. And a soldier does shoot a rock tosser? Will he be charged with murder? Civil suits filed? Because that’s the precedent, right?”

MCPO Roger Collins - if by true colors, you mean I’m able to sense a move of political posturing by man who isn’t well versed in politics, then sure, I’ve shown my true colors. Note, it’s ironic that about 20 minutes after I wrote that this situation was ‘fear mongering’, the below story hit the wire.

What I've heard quoted from Trump is "consider the rocks and cans they throw at you as a rifle". DOD establishes ROEs after running it by legal as well as the WH. Mattis said he is responding to a request from DHS. They requested trigger-pullers, but Mattis refused that and approved what they are now sending.
