Did you know that Korean War veteran honored with Purple Heart, laid to rest 65 years after going MIA?

Sixty-five years after he was declared missing in action a Korean War veteran has been laid to rest in Massachusetts.

The Boston Globe reports the coffin of Sgt. Robert Dakin was pulled by horses through downtown Waltham, where hundreds waved American flags or held “welcome home” signs.

Dakin was 22 when he disappeared during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in 1950. He was later declared to have been killed in action, but his remains were only identified recently through DNA testing.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs I did not know that Korean War veteran Sgt. Robert Dakin who was honored with the Purple Heart was laid to rest 65 years after going MIA.
I am glad to learn that the coffin of Sgt. Robert Dakin was pulled by horses through downtown Waltham, where hundreds waved American flags or held “welcome home” signs. Hopefully his descendents are thankful for the honor by so many people.

It's things like this, that we need the media on a national level to report. One of our Brave Sons from the Korean War is finally home. The lingering question that the family has not had an answer to for over half a century has been finally answered. This is in some cases is a life lesson for the younger generation as to one families resolve to keep asking the question and keeping the Soldiers name alive, and the unrelenting tenacity of our fine young men and women to make sure that every Soldier is identified and brought home. This is who we are, this is what we do, we defend our nation and we make sure that all of our defenders are accounted for.
