My father has and so did I. I never had a problem with it and it actually helped my mother and my wife when looking for assistance sometimes. I think it was helpful.

Nope, Didn't have any such thing in Navy Housing RAF West Ruislip or Jackson Park, Bremerton WA, Don't remember it at Bolling AFB either, Wasn't high enough on the Food Chain. That would have been funny CTO1 Nagel? The Only Time I ever saw it was Flag Housing, Makalapa, Pearl Harbor, HI for the Admirals and CO's of the Ships.

Never had "on post" housing...unless you count the ship, and I successfully kept my stateroom location (a spare "O-4" cabin I managed to "sequester" as an O-2) a secret for three years :)

Seriously though-I think the "good" behind the idea of not, is denying possible enemy agents from targeting specific persons.

Only in base housing once and left that in 1969. I don't recall that we had our names posted.

Never had an issue with; matter of fact, it helped people figure out which cookie cutter house was ours.

I was surprised when I got to Langley/Eustis and found out they didn't require it any more.

MAJ David Vermillion No ... Never had a problem with it. Several of the quarters I lived in (both when on active duty and as a dependent) had rank, name, position and unit crest. In addition, housing areas are usually assigned/designated by rank (junior enlisted, senior enlisted, company grade officers, field grade officers, and, on many installations, COL/GO.

MAJ David Vermillion never really thought of it, with post housing you had to put your name on your quarters at FT. Lewis, WA back in 2000-2005. Didn't bother me back then!

It never bothered me and was quite helpful when you were looking for someone's quarters. Assuming one of your troopers wasn't stalking you with a hand grenade, I think it was OK.

I liked it. On base kids could tell us they were going to the "Smith's" to play and we could easily find the house.

I've seen it at my last 2 duty stations (most houses here at Fort Leavenworth have it). Something new/novel that I have recently seen is signage with "The Snyder Family", especially on Senior Leader's quarters.

I find the latter refreshing; my quarters aren't just mine, but my family's...adding them to the sign shows I recognize their sacrifice as well.

I'm thinking OBSEC too. Cause it's not just military personnel roaming around on post. I didn't like the fact my commanding officers name was on his front door. Especially in Germany after 911! There were terrorist activities happening on a very small scale. Plus, I have a garmin to get me to the Colonels Xmas party!

I was a fan back in the day. As a female people were less likely to just open my door because they knew it wasn't a room full of makes.

Didn't live on base housing but lived in the barracks. Definitely makes it easier to find the person you're looking for.

I've only seen it on officer housing. I liked it simply so I knew where to not act stupid around. Not that I was the type, but it was good to know.

I had no problem with it. Several times it was helpful in my locating an officer of NCO's quarters when there was an emergency and no answer on the phone.

If you are going all the way back to pre-satellite days, there were no handy maps or "You Are Here" mall-style diagrams. Having delivered hold baggage and household goods in those dark ages, my crew and I needed all the info we could get.
