Do 92Y unit supply specialist get to train With the Infantry in the 75th Ranger Regiment? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/do-92y-unit-supply-specialist-get-to-train-with-the-infantry-in-the-75th-ranger-regiment

I’m highly considering joining the 75th as my next career move. However, I hate being stuck in the office all the time. i’ve heard that every MOS in the 75th is trained as Infantry first. Though I’m not an 11B, will I be able to join them in training? Will I be training in both MOS’s (92Y/11B)? If so that would be great. I’d appreciate some insight and enlightenment on this MOS topic. Thanks IA. So you do get to train on some Infantry tactics but you will not be Infantry. You will still have to do your job in supply. If you want to be training as Infantry you need to request an MOS transfer. I served in infantry and armor units and spent a fair amount of time training with them. But, your primary focus has to be your 92Y training and work. Becoming proficient at 11B skills will not advance your career as a 92Y, and focusing too much of your attention in that direction will degrade your value to your unit. As someone said below; If you want to be an infantry soldier you should change your MOS.

Also, bear in mind: No matter how much time you spend training with the 11B members of your unit, they will not see you as one. They will accept you as a member of the unit. They will appreciate the support you provide by doing your supply duties. If you're really good, they will appreciate the effort you put into providing the extras that a good supply sergeant has to share. And, they will appreciate your willingness to leave the garrison work environment to share in their training. Training with them will, in fact, help you to better know just what kind of extra goodies they will value the most. But, training with them will never make you one of them. If you are assigned to Ranger Bn you will more than likely do field training; however, not in the capacity that you may want or like. Depending on the type of training you may be omitted from participating. You won't get the luxury of being trained in both MOS's sorry. This is not to say that you are incapable of completing the training that 11B's do but in the Army we all have a specific job ie supply, infantry, medical, administration etc. If you have the desire, want and dedication to undertake the 11B identifier just reclass. This way you will be in a unit that trains be a part of the training and not seen differently. To dispel the rumor not every MOS in a Ranger Bn train as Infantry only Infantry train as Infantry. Typically E-5s and below go to RASP 1 and E-6 and above to to RASP 2. They are DRASTICALLY different courses. RASP 1 is 8 weeks long and is focused on your assessing your mental toughness and your “trainability” as a junior member of SOF. All members go through the same training and you will learn marksmanship, breaching, tactical trauma care, and do a ton of really shitty PT.

RASP 2 is three weeks long and focused on assessing your potential to serve as a LEADER in the organization, problem solving skills, your cognitive aptitude, and your ability to work as a team. You will do some basic marksmanship and small unit tactics, and definitely some challenging PT; but you will also take multiple IQ and personality tests, a psych evaluation, doctrine and history tests, brief a presentation, and conduct the final hurdle of a board consisting of current CSM’s and BCs in the Regiment.

To be completely blunt RASP 1 is MUCH harder physically while RASP 2 saves the biggest kick in the nuts for the board phase.

As someone mentioned before, while you are not required to have a Tab to apply, you WILL be expected to attend and pass Ranger School within 18 months or your stay will be cut short.

If you are truly interested, I HIGHLY recommend that you apply. The Regiment is critically short on 92Y’s right now mostly because it’s hard to find supply guys that enjoy doing 5 mile runs, Ruck marches, and RPATs when they can just go over to Special Forces Group as a “maroon beret” guy and not be expected to do any of that (no offense to SF).

The thing that makes the Ranger Regiment special is that EVERYONE (regardless of MOS) is a Ranger and held to the same standards. There are no "haves" and "have nots", no long tabbers vs short tabbers, no operational vs direct support. There is something extremely humbling to be an infantry guy, walk into the S1 shop, and be surrounded by dudes that can out PT you any day of the week, and might have been the honor grad of their Ranger School class.
