SPC Private RallyPoint Member 1913014

My unit is telling me if I go tdy and return to ait (fort Stewart to fort sill) that I may not be authorized to drive my pov there due to it being a "safety issue". I don't know how they could get away with doing this considering my school is almost 6 months long. Is there any regulations on this matter etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do any regulations cover using a POV for travel to TDY and return to AIT? 2016-09-21T17:38:13-04:00 SPC Private RallyPoint Member 1913014

My unit is telling me if I go tdy and return to ait (fort Stewart to fort sill) that I may not be authorized to drive my pov there due to it being a "safety issue". Suck it up.

Secondly, there's usually a base order detailing travel accommodations. No boot is allowed to have their POV during the training pipeline. That's just the way it is. What I would do it contact the S-1 (or Army equivalent) on the base or command regulation.

Or you can keep bitching. You do you, man. You will never get "In and Around Mileage". It's not so much the travel regs as who specifically is cutting the orders and checking the blocks on what is listed in your Additional Instructions.

As long as "Cost of Constructive Carrier" is checked, you should only get re-reimbursed what a plane ticket would cost. I drove my car per my orders (POV allowed). You'll have to find a place to park it when you get there. Ask your class NCOIC where to park it and what the rules are for driving it on post. It won't be their first rodeo on this issue. Re-classing is a normal thing. If they were to authorize that, they would also have to allow adequate travel time and per diem as well.

As MSG Colby stated, it could be a funding issue so as SGM Marquez says, check the SH screen or the ATRRS Course catalog at the link below. IF the SH does not prohibit you to have a POV then ask you command if you could take leave in conjunction with TDY and enter your TDY location at you leave location i.e. Ft Sill. Note, you will have to do the same for your drive home. This way, they are less likely to disapprove as they will not incur a cost; you will. Allow on your DA 31 sufficient SAFE driving time.

http://www.atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 21 at 2016 8:40 PM 2016-09-21T20:40:47-04:00 2016-09-21T20:40:47-04:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 1914279

Do you mean TDY enroute with return authorized? It's a big difference. If you reenlisted for a new MOS the Army is paying for your training and you are going TDY enroute. That means the Army authorizes your travel pay, not your unit. If you currently have a follow on assignment then you are traveling to TDY enroute to your PCS. You are authorized to travel by plane, or by POV if it costs less for the Army. If the school house allows the use and/or parking of a POV, then your next step is to get in the weeds of authorization lines on your orders. If it does not specifically authorize travel by POV if advantageous to the government, you can't go that way and will need an amendment to your orders.
Next step is reimbursement for costs if you go by POV. You'll need to do the worksheet in DTS that shows the relative costs associated with modes of travel. If your CoC authorizes it, you can get up to the cost of a plane ticket for your mileage.
Good luck, SPC Private RallyPoint Member.
