Do bad years, where you don’t get retirement credit, in the reserves count towards my mandatory retirement date (MRD)?

I’m trying to look at my MRD. In the past I had several bad years, meaning I didn’t reach 50 points. They don’t count towards my retirement. A LTC can have 28 years of commissioned service. Because I sat out for several years (but was in the IRR), do I disregard those in computing an MRD? I currently have 21 years of commission service but 19 good years. My MRD is at 28 years. Do I have 7 years left or do I have 9?

Sir, isn't your mandatory retirement date going to be the last day of the month you become 60 years of age?

You have until that time to get 20 good years in, at which your reserve retirement will be point based weighted with the 20 good year mark simply working as a "Go No-GO" requirement.

You have seven years remaining and you can count on the MRD happening, it happens to thousands of LTC's every year. You can request an exemption to extend, if you are mobilized or in a critical position serving on active duty. I was extended for 18 months due to mobilization.
Your points count, even in bad years, as long as you met the 20 year requirement.
Bad year = The years don't count toward the 20 years required for Retirement.

It happened to me. I went undercover for my department and entered the IRR. I did not earn enough points for the 5 years and a little after 26 total years service I received my 20 year letter. Moreover, after several deployments, the DD-214s I received reflected only the “good years” as qualified years of service (21). The only positive is that the bad years will count towards total time in service for pension pay point value.

I may be facing the same thing, my 23A says MRD is age 60- but another document has next fall. I have a break in service of 10 years- but I think some of that time might actually be IRR?- Appointment with head personnel warrant next week...

That is a change, when I was in it was 30 years commissioned service for all officers, with some exceptions for flag officers, such as Amazing Grace.
