I have a friend who is a Cav Scout, and one of the guys in his PLT is telling him, he won't have much fun in Germany because of their MOS. He said we will probably never get any free time. So do I have anyone on here who is a Cav Scout, that was stationed in Germany?

SSG (Join to see), please tell your friend that Germany is the experience of a lifetime and one that he should think about looking into. I was a 19D stationed in Hohenfels, Germany many moons ago. I was part of the OPFOR. We were busy. We had time off also to see the sites. I have fond memories of those days. Fast forward to now. USAREUR has published four-day weekends every month. If you are not deployed, on a range, or in Hohenfels on rotation, more than likely you are off. Tell your Scout friend to look into it. It's well worth it.

1SG Steven Stankovich I told him the same thing! I was there for a week this summer, and I want to reenlist now! Lol

SSG (Join to see) No one is that busy. I was a grunt when the wall came down and 2 years afterwards. It is certainly true that I admired the lights of many of the best cities from the woodline, but Europe is awesome. On a 4-day, MWR offers 3 countries in 3 days kind of events. I took 2 other grunts and we took a bus (you can drink on the bus) and we went to Euro Disney and the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Champs d'Elysee, and ate Kermit legs and snails. Good times!

SFC Mark Merino I told him he would get to go see stuff. I think he's thinking that they will be in the field constantly. I mean I don't know anything about cav, but I was constantly in the field in my last unit, and we got a 4-day every month.

Germany is great. Make sure you tell your friend to take a chance on an assignment. I too was with 1-1 Cav in the late 80s and we did spend 200+ days a year in the field. But when we weren't in the field we had opportunities to travel and see the country.
