Knowing where and how to find these answers using your own research is the most beneficial way to further your military career and receive promotions.

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with asking for the answer to your questions, but to ask where to look to find the answers to your questions will help you more than you can imagine. Memorize what manuals do what. If you do all of this, you will help yourself out more than you will ever know. However, I would recommend that you ask for one anyway. The sooner you learn to write evals the better, as they require a very specific style.

Tell your leadership that you want one for the training value. Maybe if they don’t do a full write up you could at least sit down and discuss some of the important aspects. You’ll be appreciative of the practice further down the road. I did however write one or two up as a learning experience on two Corporals over the years to show them what to expect down the line.
