Do I have to pay for cif if it went missing 2 years ago and not my fault? 2019-07-10T10:10:12-04:00 Cpl Private RallyPoint Member 4797390

So if I was tad and not in my room for over a month and a room change happened and some marines cut my locks and moved my stuff and now I'm missing about $300 of cif but it was over 2 years ago and I'm just now seeing it while checking out if I fill out a missing gear statement would they see it as my fault for now reporting earlier and my me pay or make me not pay? In the Army you could opt to pay or ask for an investigation. However, there may be a requirement for an inventory to have been conducted, and documented, when the other Marines cut the lock to whatever contained your property. You should check Marine regulations. If required, but not completed, you may have a chance. I'd expect nobody is going to be pleased that you are 2 years past the event. Bad news is, you didn't call the MPs, you didn't do an inventory, and it's been two years. As far as any investigating officer will conclude, there is no proof so, you're either lying or were negligent and you'll be held responsible. Sounds to me at first glance like you're out $300.00. If the commander asked me to look into this and you told me this story a couple things I'd ask.....
To You
- If you just now noticed your stuff is missing how can you with any certainty blame the Marines who moved your stuff two years ago? (you can't)
- If someone other then you had possession of your stuff and moved it without you being there ; why didn't you do an inventory of your gear once you returned to verify it was all still all there? (you should have)
- How on earth did you manage to avoid a TA 50 (or whatever the Marine equivalent is) layout, inventory or inspection for two years? (that's an achievement in itself)
- Are any of the Marines who moved your gear still present in the unit? (they should have an opportunity to defend their honor as you're basically accusing them of thievery)
- Are any of the leaders who ordered the move still present in the unit? (they need some love and mentoring)

Your Leaders
- Why didn't the unit conduct an inventory of your stuff and store it in the unit supply room if you were absent during a billets move to protect you from loss and the Marines who moved your stuff from having their credibility questioned. ( leadership lesson, as they should have done one )
- How'd a Troop manage to go two years without anyone conducting an inventory, inspection or field layout ? (guess what platoon just got selected for full TA 50 layout during the next command inspection, and who's supply room will be visited by the S4 CWO) Response by CSM Richard StCyr made Jul 10 at 2019 12:47 PM 2019-07-10T12:47:36-04:00 2019-07-10T12:47:36-04:00 1stSgt Private RallyPoint Member 4797906

Did you submit a missing gear statement?
If so, was it acted on?
If not, why not?
I am going to assume that the CO Cmdr/1st Sgt have changed over, and if that is the case, you are shit outta luck.

Remember, there is only thief in the Marine Corps, everyone else is just trying to get their shit back. How does someone go two years without a TA50 inspection. (TA50 is what we called it back in the day, not sure now). If you were deployed then one would figure that it went with you to deployment. If moved there should have been and inventory sheet done which you should have inventoried again upon your return. If that had been done and you found it missing back then, you could have had it investigated and been free of any debt. I don't think you're gonna make it out of this one without losing some cash in the deal.
