Do I need to go back to AIT to switch back to my secondary MOS?

I am currently at AIT for 25B. I was already a 25B in the guard from 2010-2015. I was IRR from 2015-17 before going active duty. I was given needs of the army so I had to become a 91S. I re-enlisted in February so that I can go back to 25B but they just gave me a school date for AIT. I cannot find a regulation that covers this situation. I’m just trying to find out if I even actually need to be at this school.

You should not have to re-enter AIT for an MOS you already possess. What you need to do is find all your graduation certificates, 1059, and what ever else they gave you when you first completed 25B school. Once you have those, present them to your Training NCO....and perhaps Operations NCO.

Not sure how it is now, but back in the 1960s when I was an EM. Units could cut orders, changing your PMOS or SMOS for that matter. Never went to school. Enlisted as a 71H OJT as a company clerk on first assignment. Next, a clerk in Frankfurt, West Germany. Was told it got very cold there, and I wanted a warm clime, 1049 for RVN. C 4/12 199th Inf BDE. Yep, unit orders for 11B10 OJT and SMOS 71H20. After 6 months in the Bush, MACV J-6 put out a message for all available MARS members to request reassignment. Whipped out a 1049 and hand carried from 199th at LBJ through IIFFV LBJ to Pentagon East to the office of MACV J-6 all in one day. Within 2 days, I had orders to CO A 53rd Sig Bn* at IIFFV, Night shift op at AB8T. You guessed it, unit orders to PMOS of 05B20. As an O, I had to actually go to OBC and OAC, no unit orders. :-( Life was simpler in those days.

*53rd Sig Bn got transferred to USSF. So not only USAF units raided for USSF.

This should not be necessary... Should being the key word.

However, I can think of two scenarios where sending you back to AIT would be the prudent path.
1) MOS re-alignment meaning a current 25B is not the same job as what used to be a 25B. I highly doubt this, and even if it had, I am pretty sure you would have already figured this out.
2) substantial advancements in the field meaning that in the 8 years since you last served in the MOS, the technical aspects of the MOS have changed so significantly that your previous training is no longer valid. In the IT world, 8 years is a lifetime.

MSG Private RallyPoint Member hits the nail on the head with producing paperwork to show you are already MOS-Q. But I would also ask current 25Bs about your knowledge base and if it is up to speed. Maybe going to AIT to "catch up" is what is best for you, your future Soldiers, and the Army.

Nope. You cannot go to a school once you have passed that course in ATTRS. Have the training NCO contact Ft. Gordon, sorry, Fort Eisenhower, and have them send you your 1059.

It happens more than you think in the Guard and Reserves in order to gain rank. Use it to your advantage and keep up to date on your skills. If you don't have SEC+, get the unit to pay for a refresher and certification. If you have it, get the unit to pay for a refresher.

I would go anyways. Possibly more up to date training. Take it as a refresher.
