Bliss NCOA there is a detachment of Japanese soldiers. Their officers wore the US equivalent rank ( 2LT, CPT etc). We weren’t briefed on what to do so I saluted an officer wearing ASU brass CPT rank. He quickly, and somewhat sheepishly, returned it. In El Salvador I had a gold star over my pocket which was the equivalent of a US Army Major so the Salvadoran soldiers would recognize my rank.
