Do NCOs get a day off after watching extra duty on weekends?

I'm a new E5 and was just told the day before that I will have to watch an extra duty soldier(who is not in my squad) on a Saturday from 0900-1700 is there any sort of regulation to give comp days or something of that sort to NCO's who watch extra duty on weekends?

HMM: IF I HAD CQ OR SD ON FRI- I WOULD BE OFF SAT
IF I HAD DUTY ON SAT, I WOULD BE OFF SUNDAY
IF I HAD DUTY ON SUN....I WOULD BE OFF MONDAY MOST OFFICERS HAD TO WORK THE NEXT DAY.

NEW E5- YEAH THEY GOT YOU... SUCK IT UP BUTTER CUP- YOU'RE NCO NOW STOP COMING ON RP AND CALLING YOUR UNIT OUT.
WHEN I THE STAFF DUTY, I WAS PISSED I HAD TO BABYSIT THE F-UPS OR DRUGIES WHO GOT EXTRA DUTY OR THE SM WHO WENT AWOL.
IF I WAS GOING TO BE OUT IN THE COLD DOING THIS I MADE SURE THEY STAYED WARM BY PLACING THEM IN MOPP4 FOR ABOUT 1 OR 2. I DON'T THINK THIS IS ALLOWED ANYMORE BUT I WOULD HAVE FUN WITH YOU PROBLEM CHILDS.

Short answer: No, there is no regulation.

There is usually local policy that spells out time off after extra duty. You'll have to check to see what the installation policy is and/or your unit policy. For example, the policy at the Fort Sill FCoE* is that Soldiers get a comp day after 24hr duty

I'd have to do some serious digging....or.....you could do some serious digging in APD with the assistance of Google. Welcome to the world of NCO. More often than not, it's up to the individual unit policy. And policies are driven by regulations. Personally, what I did was if my Soldiers had weekend duty, I would give them either the Friday before or the Monday after off, and I would report that to my Platoon Sergeant or 1SG. But, that was mission dictated. Talk with your Squad Leader if you can get a day off for this. The Soldier not being in your squad has no bearing on this. Having gone from from Sergeant to Master Sergeant, I've lost count the number of weekends I've worked and still rolled in on Monday.

Last question. Are you an E5 or an NCO? Believe me, there is a difference.

This is something easily answered by your unit leadership. Are you an NCO or an E5? You need to decide that sooner than later as it will forever be how you are approached, treated, responded to etc.

Ask your immediate supervisor what the policy is.

As an NCO (in the "old" Army, 1964-1986) comp days were mostly unheard of. It was all part of being an NCO.

No regulation is going to cover this.. Some units will have local policies.. In my 27 years all but three of those as an NCO. It was common practice to have an NCO that was in need of some Special HighIntensity Training (SHIT) to supervise extra duty on weekends, or some units will use the NCO on CQ/ Staff Duty. If an NCO happens to be given extra duty as punishment from an ART 15, they of course would be assigned duties ie supervision appropriate to their rank. Lastly, yes, the new NCO's are often tasked with the supervision of extra duty in part for the need, and in part, what better training for a new NCO than working on their leadership technique..getting a group of mostly disgruntled humans to organize and complete a task they really don't want to do.

You will not find a regulation. It may be in your Commands SOPs, but where it really lies is in your Chain of Command's approach to leadership. If you stand duty on a Saturday you SHOULD be given a comp day on Monday, but there is no guarantee. I would think in an aviation unit it would be.
And don't listen to the jackwagon telling you to haze the soldier on restricted duty. Do exactly what you were assigned to do. If there are no standing orders on what extra duty is to be performed, ask for clarification. Then ask about comp time.
The only stupid question is the one not asked.

No, there is no regulation for this. Can they get a comp day? Depends on the leadership. Would I do it? Yes - I'd find a way to give some kind of comp time whether a full day or two half days. Depends on what's going on with training, schedule, etc. But there's never going to be a guarantee of it happening either, depending on leadership above me.

I've always just seen extra duty get sent to staff duty and the SDNCO has been given a list of tasks to give extra duty to do and then they come back when they're done. If they get done early, they get more stuff to do.

I remember working about 14 or 15 days straight and I was up for a couple a days off when we went on alert. So much for a day off. At that time I was part of the 509th Bomb Wing at Pease AFB, NH. I would do all over again too

Since that is not a 24 hour duty shift most likely not. The big question that should be asked is how did you get selected for this duty. Since the soldier in question is not in your squad, then there must be a duty roster where all NCO's (E-5 and E-6) are on that roster and it must be maintained on a DA Form 6. Or id you get selected as a form of punishment because of a screw up you did and they did not want to do an AR 15 on you. Too many questions - no answers
