Do other branches' NCOES equate to the Army NCOES? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/do-other-branches-ncoes-equate-to-the-army-ncoes

I joined from the Navy and I have a HRC Memo for my grade determination that states I completed other Branch NCOES. I am wondering if that means my BLC requirement is met, since I was awarded my E-5 and BLC is a requirement to be pinned. I've talked to my S-1, and my NCO but no one seems to really know who to talk to for an answer. I have the memo, my leadership course certificate and my promotion orders to E5 as well. I was in the same situation when I switched over, but I was a SSG going through BLC. With the army step program you cannot be promoted until you have completed the required ncoes. If you were to attempt to attend BLC you would be denied enrollment. As I understand it he retired from the Corps if they let him back in, they wouldn't promoted him higher. Long story on that one. Needless to say, he dumps this huge folder on my desk and says he's qualified through E-7. Granted, this was before the overhaul of the promotion system. However, AR 350-1 is pretty specific on what courses from the sister services we will except. For example Para 3-28 states that you will attend Prior Service Basic Cbt Training unless you meet certain conditions. Since I don't know which Navy school you refer too, so I can't tell you if you need certain things. I also can't tell if you are AC, USAR or ARNG. AR 600-8-19 does covers enlisted promotions for the different COMPOs. USAR is chapter 5, Ch 6 is for IRR/IMA, ARNG is chapter 7, etc. Chapter 3 covers SGT promotions in all compos. It looks like the ARNG is the most flexible in giving credit, but not so much on the AC side. If you have a diploma or a 1059 type form from the Navy with it listed, get it perm'd and put on your ERB. If nothing else, its in the record. Then enroll for school in ATRRS and do great things. Honestly, I don't see "Navy" anywhere on the list. Lots of USMC stuff. Hope you are successful. Few things suck worse then taking two schools for the same thing.

Footnote - Turns out the Marine lied about his NCO course and a badge he received. Before they caught it, he went to Army OCS and was commissioned a 2LT. Turns out he lied about a preexisting medical condition when he had a heart attack on duty (he was in his late 30s) as a BG's aide. He was given a GOMO and a OTH discharge. Ah, only if the internet and Facebook existed back then. You can't make this stuff up. COL Thomas F. It will work itself out. You turned it over to PAC and that is their job. Give it a few weeks and check in. If it persists ask that it be elevated to the Brigade S1. The Army will not let you down. If it does not translate, the commeradary experienced at BLC will be well worth the time. In fact if I were your CSM I would get you a slot either way, as it will provide you more tools in shaping you as a leader. Thank you for your service. What you leaned in the Navy helped you in the Navy, not the Army- Did the Navy ever force you to do land navigation, call for fire or MEDEVAC, inspect a truck, Bradley, etc.? I doubt your idea will fly. SGM Bill Frazer Fri, 03 Aug 2018 23:22:29 -0400 2018-08-03T23:22:29-04:00 2018-08-01T19:32:14-04:00
