I'm apparently supposed to drop in for the last 6 weeks of osut. I' e heard PS guys sleep in separate barracks, get cut loose after evening chow and keeps their phones? I don't care much for any extra liberties, I just want to be able to do my own extra rucking/go to gym and keep my phone to makes sure bills are taken care of. Would anyone have any insight? Do prior service get any extra liberties (gym, phone) when going to OSUT? 2019-04-14T18:21:14-04:00 Sgt Private RallyPoint Member 4544784

I'm a pog e5 usmc reservist. The first would be are they dropping you into the last section of the new extended Infantry School, which would make that "AIT" phase a lot longer, or the old version of OSUT that was officially 14 weeks.
While it's been over 30 years since I went through, my recollections was that there was damn little free time and you probably don't need to worry about rucking and PT.
We had several Vietnam Era Marines going through OSUT with us, but they were all there from day one. I would call the school house and get the real scoop. Response by CPT Lawrence Cable made Apr 14 at 2019 6:42 PM 2019-04-14T18:42:50-04:00 2019-04-14T18:42:50-04:00 SPC Elijah J. So lets say you arrive during the peak Spring to Summer training period. Your probably going to be in the same barracks bay vs. completely removed from the trainees because space will be at a premium. They look at your records when you arrive as to last PT test of record and your last rifle qualification and then they make a decision at what point in the cycle you are inserted. I have no clue if your Marine rifle qualification or Marine PT test transfers to Army or not. If someone told you the last 6 weeks, it is a guess not a guarantee. It is based on an assessment they do of you at the reception station and what openings are available in what cycles and what they think you have qualified on recently (PT test / rifle qualification) As for the other liberties yes they will grant some or most of them as you were told. Never saw them mess with Prior Service unless of course you break their rules. Remember that a chunk of the Infantry training in the advanced phase is after chow from 10:30 to about 2-3 a.m. On those days they might cut you loose but also ask you to come back. If they train you after midnight they usually let you sleep in an extra hour or two. That is accurate. Phone, separate room, and weekends “off”. Good luck and have fun.
