If you're volunteering again you may get a break for TIS requirements if you're returning at the same grade but I have doubts. As for will you kick-in with promotion points from a previous selection board - NO - you will have to re-board and hopefully re-earn your rank.
I may be wrong but that's what i got from a transitions NCO. I was given credit for my IRR time as TIS for pay, but my BASD was different and was always a headache for retention. I was also a Branch transfer from Marines to Army though. SFC Private RallyPoint Member is a Career Counselor and is incredibly knowledgeable in this area. When you are promotable you can look at your PPW to see what you have. You will receive points based on your awards, military and civilian education, PT, shooting, and a few other things.
