I'm sure since he and I still work together, he's going to see what I learned here in ALC. lol SSG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 23 May 2014 10:38:46 -0400 2014-05-23T10:38:46-04:00 Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made May 23 at 2014 2:26 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/do-psgs-and-1sgs-still-conduct-the-check-on-learning-after-a-soldier-or-nco-graduates-from-a-ncoes-course?n=133520&urlhash=133520

Two days after I got back, I got a pop quiz on d and c, and had to perform an open ranks inspection by the book.

My PSG was a former cadre at an Ncoes so he was very well trained at providing instruction and check on learning. My Check on Learning includes the following:

I always ask the graduate:

1). What have you learned?
2). What did you get good at?
3). Do you understand the process of NCOES?

I always explain to the graduate:

In its early stages, NCOES was designed to build knowledge in the following way:

If you look at the DA Form 1059, which is the tool the Army uses to evaluate a Soldier in NCOES, it clearly identifies the following areas:

a. Written Communication
b. Oral Communication
c. Leadership
d. Contribution to group work
e. Student’s Research Ability

These elements are typically used sequentially at each NCOES level.

a. PLDC / WLC – The NCOES where all MOSs are brought together to learn basic leader skills. Evaluates Oral Communication, Leadership, and Contribution to group work. I specifically explain this in layman terms to the graduates as “Leaders Communicate to Build the Team”. This is the basis of Army leader development.

b. BNCOC / ALC – The NCOES where all CMFs are separated in order to learn basic level NCO skills for their specific duty. Evaluates Written Communication, Oral Communication, Leadership, and Contribution to group work.

c. ANCOC / SLC - The NCOES where all CMFs remain separated in order to learn advance level NCO skills for their specific duty. Evaluates Written Communication, Oral Communication, Leadership, and Contribution to group work and Student’s Research Ability.

d. SMC - The NCOES where all MOSs are brought back together to learn advance leader skills. Evaluates Written Communication, Oral Communication, Leadership, and Contribution to group work and Student’s Research Ability.

There you have it, my Check on Learning is concluded when the Graduate can clearly articulate and or execute the things he/she has done that specifically coincide with the areas of evaluation on the DA Form 1059.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
