It is supposed to be mandator. However, I never had one. Carson. If a Soldier shows up on our inbound roster (which often times, they do not), they are immediately assigned a sponsor and heads will roll if that sponsor does not reach out before hand, as well as once the Soldier has arrived. But it was up to the person who was PCSing if they wanted a sponsor. If Ft Leavenworth is any indication, the Army is taking this pretty seriously now.
