Pretty much the process was as others have described, maybe some differences due to which of 3 (at that time) Boot you went to or branches of US service. It was 2 Million IU of Bicillin. The reason for the super heavy dose was to kill anything they didn&#39;t want to deal with or test everyone for. Problem was every now and then that dose was more than large enough to off a boot that never had it before, hence didn&#39;t know they had a reaction to it. They&#39;d kill 2-3 recruits a year that way, but it was just considered a cost of doing business. And, you didn&#39;t want to be in the top rack the next morning. The landing was more than painful. LEan over and grit your teeth!- Don&#39;t recall any shot as tough as that in Basic. I got mine back in 1994 and I swear sometimes I still feel the ache of that knot in my right cheek. I was standing right next to the cooler where the shots were stored and, no, they did not warm it up. Pretty sure there was like 6 shots. Got light headed and had to lay down w my feet up.
