Do they give the peanut butter shot at Army basic training anymore?

Im leaving in August (of 2018)! I have no problem with needles, but I’ve heard that this is the worst.

Yup, when I went to Boot at Great Lakes it was standard practice to give everybody a large dose (10,000 units)injection of penicillin, but I guess not if they were aware that you already had a sensitivity. Pretty much the process was as others have described, maybe some differences due to which of 3 (at that time) Boot you went to or branches of US service. Interesting to note that other countries did similar.

I didn't get it back in '08, but the amount of vaccines they did inject me with are enough to keep generations of my descendants immune from any known disease.

Getting your immunizations is all part of becoming a soldier ,have no fear about shots,do have fear about your DIs ,I’ve been out since 1968 and I’m still scared of them,seriously you will hear many rumors and some outright lies about Basic ,listen and do your best you’ll be fine ,believe me.

I remember getting it back in the day at Boot. It was 2 Million IU of Bicillin. The reason for the super heavy dose was to kill anything they didn't want to deal with or test everyone for. Problem was every now and then that dose was more than large enough to off a boot that never had it before, hence didn't know they had a reaction to it. They'd kill 2-3 recruits a year that way, but it was just considered a cost of doing business. And, you didn't want to be in the top rack the next morning. The landing was more than painful.

Got so many shots I don't remember any one particular shot.
If needles aren't a problem, Inwouldn't worry about it.
Lots more to think about than the shots.

Certain parts of the world require the gamma gobulin shot as a preventive. LEan over and grit your teeth!- Don't recall any shot as tough as that in Basic.

Ahh, the peanut butter shot. I got mine back in 1994 and I swear sometimes I still feel the ache of that knot in my right cheek. I was standing right next to the cooler where the shots were stored and, no, they did not warm it up.

When I did it in 07 we were lined up with both sleeves rolled up and the were shooting us up as we walked by. Pretty sure there was like 6 shots. Got light headed and had to lay down w my feet up. Fun times

Its called bicillin and I believe they stopped it due to adverse reactions
