We don't have a civic duty to say whatever we want or buy rifles "because we can".
Great article, please read before posting.

I agree with Mike Rowe and I would go even farther. You have to pass a background check before you can purchase a firearm (which is a right, just like voting), you should have to pass a basic American History test and a background check before you're allowed to vote. Way too many completely clueless Americans voting!

Or be able to show they understand the constitutional role (job description) of the candidate (applicant).

If there was a history test and background check about 95% would fail.

PFC Jim Wheeler - I agree and in this years election I am struggling to see either candidate discuss the "issues".

SSG(P) Ryan R. - Kind of hard to do when history shows that such tests were used by political parties to disenfranchise voters.

Seriously, voting is a privilege... if you don't cash it in, you get the government you deserve. Side note, while it's stupid to purchase a weapon because you can, it's good to know that you have the right. Better to have (the right) and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Sgt Wayne Wood - That part's easy, I just wish I knew an honest politician who could fix it. That's part of the intrigue of Trump - at least he's not a politician...

Sgt Wayne Wood - there was a time when I believed in all three.

A It is nice to see people openly calling for the return of Jim Crow, Trump is allowing them to come out of that particular closet, Knowing who they are is a great help, in avoiding them.

Who gets to write the test? Fr example was California bought or stolen, and was the trail of tears necessary or murderous ethnic cleansing questions,Was Brown a hero, a terrorist or both.

Why not restrict it to property owners also since they have a vested interest and the serfs do not? And it also displays a massive ignorance of history since the Army that created the United States was comprised of illiterates for a large part.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr I voted you up because I like your thoughts on the questions that would have differing correct answers.

That said, I don't think anyone is advocating Jim Crow laws.

One thing I think would benefit would be the total elimination of part references on the ballot. No Ds No Rs no Ls. Then at a minimum the voter would have to do a little research of the candidates.

Capt (Join to see) - That would only make a difference for the "smaller" elections. (Congress, state, etc.)

And then there is always the chance that it would just be people picking names that they liked.

PFC Jim Wheeler - My last boss had a saying on his wall.

There are none so dangerous as those who do not know but do not know that they do not know.

Unfortunately that seems to include a lot of voters.

Capt (Join to see) - Look at the SGM post in this thread, he is openly calling for testing to vote. that is Jim Crow at work unless you believe "you should have to pass a basic American History test and a background check before you're allowed to vote" is not a great example of the worst of Jim Crow thinking.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
