Do we need a CW6 rank?

What do you think. Do we need a CW6? I do not think so. Also I think the air force wants warrant officers back in their force structure

There are probably about 4000 CW3s, 2000 CW4s and 500 CW5s. At that rate, there’d be what, about 50-75 CW6s?

What would their function be? What current capability gap would they fill? If such a gap exists, could it not be filled by simply authorizing more CW5 positions?

Not only is a CW6 rank unnecessary, I think that a more relevant/interesting conversation would be, “can the CW5 rank be eliminated?”

No need for a CW6. Any position needed could be filled by a CW5. Air Force had a Rand study completed last year which said Warrants were not needed but it sounded like the conclusion was drawn without looking at the real issues. I never put much faith in the Rand studies.

There was a pretty mature RP discussion on the use and utility of Command Chief Warrant Officers which also spawned the conversation about CW6 at the Chief of Staff of the Army Level...of course the RP Search engine is useless in finding this.

When I entered the Air Force back in 1978, they were getting rid of all of their Warrant Officers because they didn't have anything for them to do. I can't imagine why they would want them back today. Nothing is different now!

I don't see any point in adding another level to Warrant Officers, it existed for years W1 to W4 until more recently the grade of W5 was added. I had met a few Air Force Warrant Officers back in the day and even had one in our unit, the 351st Combat Defense Squadron, (SAC) at Whiteman AFB, MO in the 1966-67 time frame. He was a CWO (W4) Homer R. Gunn and very well respected with a great deal of experience over a long period of time in the Air Police.

I'm not convinced that CW5s have a point, much less a CW6.
Not trying to start a fight here, just pointing out that the Army got by just fine without CW5s until not that long ago.

Don't see a need for WO6. I think the AF needs the warrents back. The officers don't want to fly the drones and they don't really want the enlisted doing it either.

There is already a CW6 rank, just not activated. Google it. It looks just like CW5 but with two lines... I think the ARSTAF CWO should be a CW6...

Nope, they are looking at cutting down the number of CW5's.
