I can see this. We are now constantly told that we don't do enough for others. However, rarely is it mentioned that America is the most generous country when it comes to private giving. Our citizens are willing to give what little they have to help others in need.

Our nation is about 1/2 what it was in the 60's
I think the reason is that whenever some one points that out they get shouted down by choruses of "We're Number #1"...

I don't. Are we at our peak? No, but peaks don't last. As far as nations go we've been a fairly consistent sine wave with ups and downs. At our lows we dip beneath the highs of other nations, but at the top, we outshine our nearest competitors. We are still a great nation.

When Mr. Trump makes comments about "Making America great again" the response should be equally casual "It never stopped being great."

There is no doubt that we have lost stature in the world in the last 10-12 years. I blame the failure to secure the peace in Iraq and the policies of the current Administration which has allowed N Korea, Iran, and Russia to slap us in the face and tell us our mommies calling us.... This trend is most definitely reversible though....

SSgt Alex Robinson - Just so there is no mistake, I love our country and always will. I have lived in several other countries for 31 years of my life and that simply makes one love our country more.

Having said that, many of the things that have made our country great seem to have gone to the wayside due to the "progressive liberal" movement and, as a result, our country has suffered.

Is our country still the greatest country in the world? Yes - No doubt about it in my mind, but there is also no doubt that we are not as great, both domestically and internationally, as we once were.

Can we ever achieve the greatness we once were? Yes, I think so, but it will take a significant course change and that will be fraught with many obstacles.

Trump is right that America's star has faded, but not even remotely for the reason(s) he believes. He is much, much more a part of the *problem* than he could ever hope to be a part of the solution...
