Do you agree that the most powerful tool you have as a Leader is your own personal example?

RP Members and Connection share your Story of your Personal Example of Leadership!
Personal leadership is the leadership of the self. It is the ability to define a direction for your leadership and life, and to move in that direction with consistency and clarity.
When you practice personal leadership, you “lead from the inside out.” The process involves asking yourself, “How do I need to be, act and think in order to be my best?” To do that, you must periodically turn away from the concerns of the day – the people, the problems and the pressure – to explore and discover your inner edge.......by Joelle K. Jay, Ph.D

Our personal example is useful after we have been established as a leader COL Mikel J. Burroughs. It can also be useful when we come into contact with those we have led before. A few times I have been humbled as soldiers I led in earlier assignments and some of those who were over me commended my leadership to others.
It is always much better to be commended by others.

I do agree, sir. The old adage says that actions speak louder than words. There's a reason it's an adage!

Went back for a visit and was talking to the training NCO. I was his supervisor. I commented that I thought he always put out 100%. His comment was that he always felt he should do more because of my example. That was several years ago. Still makes feel good when I think of it.

Well - my focus on leadership is "servant" leadership - always looking to serve others (not myself). Yes, I focus on myself by LEARNING more about leadership (one way to do that is to follow COL Mikel J. Burroughs) and this helps me BE the example of a servant leader - which in turn helps others define their individual leadership style.
