No. Failing to fix our education system will be. A strong military only goes so far if it's manned by a nation of dullards... Education, innovation and imagination are the currency of success...

Common Core does serve a purpose though. We are currently scoring in the mid teens in the math and sciences compared to our peer nations. Common Core is good enough for them, and they are kicking our butts with it. I agree it seems convoluted, but that's kinda the point, the education system failed US, which is why it's so complicated. Our children deserve better. THEY (our kids) will get it, in time. And it's up to them to bring us back up to par with our sister nations... We can't let OUR failings hold our children back...

Tell me again SSG Michael Hasbun, how it is wrong answer to have 5 groups of 3 equaling 15 is right over 3 groups or 5 = 15. It is the same freaking answer. 6/12ths is 1/2 no matter how you do the problem. goal post is wrong yet the ice cream cone is right yet you still get the same answer and the goal post is faster and easier that long drawn out complicated math! common core math makes as much sense as a football bat!

SGT Bryon Sergent - I agree, it doesn't make sense to us. Why? Because the education system failed us. It DOES make sense to the kids in countries around the world who are kicking our red, white and blue fannies in the maths and sciences. We grew up with "nanny style" rote memorization. It's fine for the lower maths, but leaves our kids at a distinct disadvantage when it comes time to higher learning.

SFC Michael Hasbun - I disagree, but that is one of the good things about this country! Not everyone is going to be a rocket jockey and does not need quantum physics to know that 3x5 and 5x3 has the same answer. Whether I have 3 groups of 5 or 5 groups of 3 I still have 15 of what ever that are grouped!

Downsizing has occurred on many occasions and the issue was and is when the balloon goes up and large numbers of military are required. Our citizens come to the aid of our country and get slaughtered until the come up to speed being a true warrior. "We fight the war with what we have", remember that?

That is because you are not military. Most veterans and AD shortly after 9/11 do. We were unprepared which resulted in many casualties. Primarily due to reductions in the DOD by the eight years of Democrat rule. If you need more, read up on the Defense status just before WWII or the Korean Conflict.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it would cause America's downfall. But the impact it's had, and will continue to have is quite noticable. Still though, less than a year, we'll a president that supports the Military (knock on wood, please no Clinton). America will be on the rise again.
