Since we really only have 2 major parties (all others are fairly inconsequential since we're not a parliamentary democracy), its likely that they will fall under one party or the other, but there's multiple specific views under the Republican and Democrat platforms. I don't think past membership or voting affiliation is an issue. It's not the RNC or DNC are giving Supreme Court Justices their approved talking points. Capt Johnson made a point that is it is better to know one affiliation than not knowing . Question are the Justices rulings being influenced politically.
