Do you feel that Soldiers who are dropping their retirement packets should be assigned to the WTB "Warrior Transition Unit"?

Soldiers transitioning regardless of injuries or retirement need to transition accordingly. So once a Soldier has their retirement packet approved should they be assigned to the WTB?

nope....the WTB is for wounded warriors....If they are wounded or getting medically boarded..then yes.

Thank you for your feedback, before being assigned to WTB I thought that it was only for wounded soldiers as well or soldiers that were in injured and trying to transition or return to duty but today it was stated that it should be for all Warriors transitioning Including those that will be retiring.

No, the WTB were created to perform a function, not to be a dumping ground. There are plenty of duties someone who is on their way out can perform at battalion, brigade, and division levels that provide a necessary functions.

MSG thank you for replying to the Post. I agree that the WTB was created to perform a function, that function is to allow Soldiers the opportunity to take care of medical needs, as well as to assist them with their transition plan. I can definitely see how individuals that are going to be transitioning soon into retirement can still perform functions at different levels. The number one thing that I continue to hear over and over at the WTB is that soldiers find themselves in the civilian sector trying to take care of some of the things that could have been taken care of prior to their official ETS such as medicalevaluations and schooling. I can definitely see where leaders may feel like the WTB could become a dumping ground if all retiring soldiers went there to transition.

The SM telling the Army they want to retire, is still serving until the last day.
If you want a day to yourself with no assigned tasks, take leave or a pass.
US ARMY= Uncle Sam Aint Released Me Yet If your still wearing the US name tape, you still have an obligation to serve.
If the retiring member has no critical tasks in the unit they can be an asset at, and the unit has a need to fill a tasking at WTB... sounds like a great fit.. The retiring SM can do their duty and when not tasked, transition out.
Too many ROAD service members out there, who think once they drop a request to retire they have no further duty requirement to the unit. Nothing could be further from the truth than that. There are transition tasks, which the unit needs to support, but that does not mean no assigned tasks for the 3, 6, 18 months the SM is taking to transition out.
To the SM who wants to quit once they drop a retirement packet......18 hour duty days as the wash rack NCO have to be filled by someone...... bring your wet weather gear, your going to need it your last few months.

SGM Marquez thank you for replying and providing us with your feedback. The one thing that I think could be a Huge deterrence in assigning soldiers with approved retirement packets to the WTU is that manpower requirements are still needed in the units. But if you look at the situation as you may be losing a SFC who is fixing to retire, but if they are released after doing a proper left seat right seat with an incoming SFC then it would provide the incoming platoon sergeant with the opportunity to properly take over the platoon, and allows the transitioning SFC the opportunity to take advantage of all available resources for their transition plan.

SFC (Join to see) - As well as the outgoing PSG is "still around" should some bit if learned institutional knowledge be needed, and as you pointed out, OUT of the way for the new guy to take the lead.
You can not have two leaders old and new, the platoon will continue to seek guidance, answers from the old guy as long as he is there (unless he was a tool, in which case he will get ignored like a used kleenex no no one wants to pick up and throw away)

One other consideration is, longevity.. Is assigning a short time with 2, 3, 4 months remaining doing justice to the wounded warriors in WTB? Will the incoming short timer have the time to learn what is needed and put it to use?
If the job at WTB is answer the phone, then maybe...if it is learn the medical process, the seperation process and guide SM though it, maybe not.
If the SM is a ROAD (Retired on active duty) do you want to saddle WTB leadership with that issue, do you wan to give that kind of a poor leader to wounded SM
