No way. The green machine runs just as smooth as if I was never there. I used to think that if I didn't work 36 hours in a day that the Army would somehow crash....lol

Sure you did, SFC Mark Merino. You were counseling and mentoring all the time and probably not even thinking about it. Those tidbits are being carried on and passed to younger soldiers even as we speak. You made Sergeant First Class for a reason. Don't sell yourself short!

I would like to think so but, honestly, that isn't for me to say.

My Soldiers would have to answer that.
I think that many would say that I challenged them to be better than they were; to find ways to contribute when things weren't working as well as they'd like rather than griping about it; to improve themselves in order to be ready when more responsibility came their way; to understand and rise to the challenge when I told them they weren't ready yet.
What I am most proud of though, and I think most of my Soldiers would agree, is I set them up with the tools to make decisions and take initiative and get the mission done with what was available. Setting them up to lead and win... yes, that is what I would want to be remembered for.

And I pray that you are; 1SG (Join to see). Those are very lofty goals....and I feel that you have met them; First Sergeant. CONGRATULATIONS!
