Who writes and directs commercials for the Army? If it is the same group that makes decisions on uniforms someone needs to be fired.

I don't know, but I actually really liked the newest one about being part of the greatest team in the world. That's far and away better than the old "Army of One" commercials that they used to do.

No, SGT Brian Watkins! How about the "Hey First Sergeant, good morning" (Be all that you can be!) ad? I used to say that "we do more before 9:00 am than most people do all day long" all the time, and that came from the ad.

I searched for that ad and could not find it, except as part of this montage. And in my searching, I learned that people made fun of that ad. I still liked it. Doesn't matter what others may think.

SGT Brian Watkins, I think that every branch of service (excepting the USCG) has better commercials than the Army, especially the USMC. The Marine commercials are about being Marines. Many times, the Army commercials are about being trained to be something else. The likelihood is that the USCG also has better recruiting commercials than the Army; I just haven't seen one lately on which to pass judgment!
I also agree that the Army uniform decision making process is in the dumper.

Hate to say it, but as a Marine, yes, I do. However, they usually get a chuckle out of me. But I doubt that's the reaction they were going for.

Yeah, the army commercials are pretty embarrassing. Especially that surveyor one: it's like "Think he's fighting wars? Nope! you can join the army and you wont even have to fight! It wont be dangerous or scary or hard, and you'll even learn a trade!"

Most Army commercials are terrible. There was one that came out not long after 9/11 that was cool. It showed a sniper and spotter in ghillie suits. The caption said something like "enough rations for 4 days, it's day 12". That was when the Army desperately needed to beef up special operations for the coming wars. I wish I could find the video.

We spend so much effort trying to reinvent ourselves, I wonder if we just marketed our heritage if it would be successful? The Army motto is "This We'll Defend." Imagine if we marketed the Army with our motto. The possibilities would be limitless---without changing the words (which costs ridiculous amounts of time and money).

I never understood the commercials on "An Army of One" when the Army like any other Military service depends on teamwork to accomplish missions and goals. The team concept is what works and the idea of being just You seems quite contrary to what is actually needed. Nothing should be a bout just One or Me, there is far too much of that in this world and whoever does these commercials needs to get with get program. Guess what, selling what You have actually works !
