WLC and ALC had the same standards when I went through. If you met height and weight you weren't taped. If you didn't, then you were taped.

That's what I thought. Brigade CSM pulled my BLC packet because I was 21% body fat and the maximum is 22% but I am 7 pounds under weight. So I shouldn't of been taped but I'm in Army Regulations. And they are shutting down my ability to career progress even though I'm within regulation..

No if you meet height and weight standards; I should have stayed in and reenlisted in 92 as Company B 2/ 635th Armor wanted to make me a gunner. Since Gunners were Sergeants I would have had to go to PLDC as it was called back then. I let being angry over several things make my decision to reenlist or not instead of logic. I later learned I have over 150 promotion points when I finally did reenlist. The trouble was the six years and six months of separation from service were not kind to me and I had to battle the tape test. Since I was Army Guard stress in civilian life started affecting my health and I guess I was stressed out my last AT (Annual Training) and I got not only sent home from my last AT a week early over panic over my temporary hypertension and an irregular heart rate, they had me on a profile and prohibited me from even preparing for the APFT I needed to pass in order to reenlist at the end of the six month extension to my three year enlistment. I did not get taken off the profile until the state's medical review board had determined my civilian doctor was correct and that my BP was under control and the heart rate was benign and also returned to a normal rhythm. Sadly I was not released from the profile until two weeks before my ETS date and could not get a scheduled APFT until a week before. The SFC that administered the test had me do it on the drill floor of the Topeka, Kansas Armory. It was a highly polished wood basketball court floor. I got through the seventeenth pushup and nosed dived into the floor as my left hand slipped out from under me. Thus ended the test and the administrator of the APFT would not reschedule me again until nearly two weeks after my APFT. At the time of my 1992 ETS date I was in shape and off weight control, I had a healthy BP and heart rate. I should have reenlisted back then and gone on to PLDC and later NCO schools. As they say hind sight is 20/ 20. I advise you to get into a program that works. Get and keep your weight and other health in check. As a Corporal you have a chance to get on a good career path and make it to a decent retirement. Don't follow my path. Think about your future whether you are Active or Reserve Component. If you keep yourself within shape, meet the APFT requirements and do good elsewhere in your service career you should at least be able to retire in twenty as either a Staff Sergeant or young Sergeant First Class. If you shoot for a thirty year career which had been my original plan you may retire as veteran SFC or perhaps a Master Sergeant/ First Sergeant or with luck even a Sergeant Major/ Command Sergeant Major unless at some point you go OCS or ROTC and try for a commission. Then you have to face the up or out issue and have a Bachelor's Degree before you make Captain.

If you are within the regulations for height and weight then no. Yiu just take your PT test 60 and 30 days out from your school date.

You probably won't.

But the regulation states that you can be taped if your commander thinks you don't have a "Soldierly" appearance. Chapter 3 section 3-2 (d).

You should only be taped if you exceed the Height/Weight chart. Understand that the commander can have you taped just for the appearance of looking over weight. You should be good as long as you are under your screening Height/Weight.

So here is how it works! If you are going to an NCOES OR MOS producing school you can just go ahead an expect to step on a scale! If you are above your authorized weight then you can expect to get taped! Even though you might not "always" get taped for every school in the military you should BE PREPARED for it!

Commanders are authorized to, so it's school dependent on where you take the course at. Generally, and in my experience, taping is only done after an APFT. Personally I believe, taping should only be conducted for being over height/weight, otherwise it's inaccurate (I have 7-9% and taping puts me at 16%-20% at 71" 175lbs).

According to AR 600-9, Para. 3-2c-d:
"c. Commanders are authorized to use the weight for height table (see app B) as a screening tool in order to expedite the semi-annual testing process. If Soldiers do not exceed the authorized screening table weight for their age and measured height, no body fat assessment is required.

d. Commanders have the authority to direct a body fat assessment on any Soldier that they determine does not present a Soldierly appearance, regardless of whether or not the Soldier exceeds the screening table weight for his or her measured height"

I just went to ALC in December and I'm heading to recruiting school in May. My Brigade does PT test and HT/WT 4 times starting at 120 days out down to your 30 day window. I'm 69 inches 172 and they still tape me everytime even though I'm 33 years old and I'm 12 lbs under. It makes no sense because I've never been taped except for this new thing my Brigade is doing. I feel like some of the units these days are trying to find ways to eliminate soldiers.

I was under weight at a school. Super tall and really skinny. IF they tape you for being underweight there cannot be a negative action and any dietary or nationalist referral has to come from a medical doctor. Otherwise in the "under weight program" its all voluntary.

I have not known anyone to get taped solely for the purpose of going to school. I was taped because
that is the standard procedure that you get taped after a APFT. In My career, I once took 3 APFTs for the old ANCOC. Regular unit PT test, another to go to school and another at school. Was taped on all 3. If you are in your weight standards, there shouldn't be a problem. One would have to have weight issues, deficiencies if he or she is getting serious traffic about being taped before school.

MSG Geter here again. Keep in mind that every post , unit, division, company, etc is different.
I've been in the 25th ID, 3rd ID and because of the leadership, regardless if you were under, within or whatever, you got taped. Some units are easy going and do things slightly different. I have been in the top heavy 75th Trng Command. A sea of Officers! So that means you're getting taped!! If you are under weight, you probably won't always get taped for school. It depends on the unit your in and your command.

Got taped because I am always over, don't know anyone that is under that got taped yet. The whole ABCP needs a real look over anyways, have seen a soldier not make weight, bust tape and then the next month make weight... BUT spent 6 months on ABCP because.... Once you tape on you have to tape off. Makes me wonder how many out there that don't get tapped, would bust tape because of their body type.

Not always and it depends on your chain of command. If I have a Soldier that barely meets the height weight standard and has an overweight appearance, then yes I would. If that individual was clearly under their screening weight and looked in shape, I probably wouldn't. All this said, it is up to the chain of command. I just got taped for an award and I am 10+ pounds under my screen weight and not even a hint of an overweight appearance. The bottom line is, as a leader you are obligated to meet current height weight standards. You need to do this for health and performance reasons. Also, if you meet the standard, you have nothing to worry about. Tell them to bring it!

You are required to take a PRT test. This is usually followed up or proceeded with a height and weight test. If you fail the height to weight test then you are required to be taped in order to determine your body fat percentage. The army always uses the tape test which has always been questionable since different people have different body structure. I am told that the air force uses the water displacement method which is more accurate than taping however, the army still only tapes the soldiers.

Your battalion and brigade are suppose to do HT/WT and DAPFT for all Soldiers who have a class seat reservations 90 days- 60 days- 30 days before a Soldier leave for school so that it prevents sending soldiers who can not pass either event. But yes all NCOES perform HT/WT as a requirement for graduation.

No, you will conduct an APFT and then Height and Weight or vice versa. If your meet the standards outlined in AR 600-9 they will not tape you.

I've completed every level of NCOES and was weighed at every school. I never in my career weighed over the ABCP requirement. But check your Pre-Exection Checklist or the ATRRS printout of the schools info and it will be also annotated in there.

When I went through PLDC we didn't have to get taped but I know some units who do that before they even consider you to go in front of the Board.
