This is the current iteration of my Service Match M1A. It began life as one of mine that the crew at Navy Weapons Station Crane "improved", i.e. I got my receiver back but everything else was custom. Shot PACFLT matches for a bit but stopped when kids arrivved. After years looking through ovals, the eyes need more help, the legs need more help, and I got into busting propane cylinders at long range. Tannerite is for wimps. So I fitted the war horse to an Archangel stock and added a Viper Vortex MRAD. I use my usual 168g Matchking loads that still get the full match prep treatment. The rifle, as always, is much better than I am. But it's the great shots like golf that keep bringing you back. I might have Clint a Fulton Armory fit a new barrel in a few years, but for now the flames are awesome. First off they wanted me to "Grip" it with my forward hand, well doing that with my Navy Typist long fingers put it in the Mechanism and I sure as hell wasn't firing it that way. The Range Master made an exception in my case and I could "Cradle It" with my forward hand. The next bit of fun is that it was in an Indoor (Short) Range. So they gave us Blanks and it did have a Flash Suppressor on the Front. Flash Suppressor or not Flame still shot out about 3 ft from the Barrel. Oh Yeah I thought that was just the neatest thing I'd ever seen. Pretty Good Rifle. It had a Springfield two bolt scope mount and I don't remember the brand of the scope. Remember, I have been out of service for 20 years. If I recall, the scope had a 50mm objective lens and was variable power. I sure wish I could afford to buy one like it for myself. I would have to settle for an M1A though because I am not spending the money for an actual M-14.
